A Hole in the Head

Our girls are American Girl Doll fans. However, we're pretty cheap, so they have the $20 Target knock-off versions. We recently went to the American Girl Doll store and saw that they offered ear piercings in the doll salon. There's more than one thing wrong in that last sentence.

At any rate, it was pretty pricey to have the store pierce the dolls ears, around the cost of our knock-off doll itself. Then I found out that all that was required was a hole for the earring. Sign me up. What boy didn't dream about taking a drill to his sister's doll's head growing up? Maybe I've shared too much.

Fortunately, I'm not one to shy away for a little impromptu surgery. Four minutes, one 5/64" drill bit, and zero misses later, three wannabe AGD's had a little extra ventilation. Maybe we should take the money we saved and buy these girls real American Girl Dolls.

Nah, they need $100 dolls like I need a  hole in the head.

  1. You kind of look like the kid from Toy story. $100 for a doll, I hope they don't make an Aussie version

  2. I stopped in AGD store South of KC while in town last. I thought I might pick out a pair of shoes to go with my daughter's doll...but when I could spend as much on a pair of doll shoes as on full size shoes for my daughter, I just walked away.
It looks like Abby is having just as much fun as you are ;)

  3. Someone gave my 3-year-old an American Girl Doll catalogue and she won't shut up about them. I have three girls, so I ordered three knock-offs yesterday. I'll have to refer my husband to your blog when it's time to pierce their ears!

  4. Did you know they will not take knock off dolls in the American girl salon?!? You are much better off! And my husband has been trying to convince me to break out the drill to do this!

  5. What the heck? 100 dollar dolls with 20 dollar pierced ears? Maybe it's good I don't have kids, I do have a resourceful husband though in case future children do want their dolls to look like hussies.

  6. I LOVED my american doll! I had mine way before they invented knock-offs and wouldn't go back for anything. All of my girls will have american doll girls, whether it's just the one I have right now or the 6 I have later. I love how they come with their little pieces of history and outfits that fit the date of their existence.

  7. American Girl preys on moms like me who, as little girls back in the day, always got the catalogs but never the dolls.....so what do we do now? Work 3 jobs so we can give our daughters what we never had. Well played AG, well played.
