The Right Tool for the Job

This evening Mandy asked me if I'd hand whip her glaze. I gave it about three whips and knew there had to be a better way. Unfortunately, we don't have a hand mixer.

It's important to note that I'm a big proponent of having the right tool for the job. In many cases, I'll agree to do a project for Mandy simply because it involves the purchase of a new tool. That said, it looks like I may have to expand my next power tool purchase to Bed Bath and Beyond.

The real question you should be asking is why do we have a bunch of mixer attachments in our misc kitchen drawer if we don't have a hand mixer?

P.S. I probably shouldn't mention that some sawdust fell off my drill and into the glaze half way through the job. Not wanting to cause a fuss, I just kept on mixing. A little extra fiber never hurt anyone.

  2. Alton Brown is proud of you. http://www.goodeatsfanpage.com/season9/vanilla/vanilla_tran.htm - "You know corers are everywhere, but they're clumsy, medieval devices, and you're more likely to shear off your hand than get all the seeds out. That's why I use this. [camera pans to show an unmodified cordless drill with a paddle bit] Heh, heh, heh, heh. [Clint Eastwood voice] Go ahead, punk, poach my pears. Needless to say, this 11/16-inch paddle bit is only used for food. Well, that's not entirely true, but it is very, very, very clean."

  3. And, http://www.goodeatsfanpage.com/Season10/pepper/majorpepper.htm - "Now let's see. What did I leave ... Oh, one-handed electric mills. You know, this is a very, very good concept, but I have never seen it executed properly. Of course, I am working on a little something of my own. [shows a pepper mill attached to the bit housing of a cordless drill] Ha ha ha ha ha. Take that! Yeah, baby!"

  5. HAHA that's awesome! Maybe my hubs would help more in the kitchen if we had tools like that!

  6. I've seen them do this on Canada Day for the pancake breakfast, in a 5-Gallon pail :)

  7. I envy you. Ever since "The great plunge-router / breakfast casserole incident of 2011" my wife has banned me from cooking with my power tools. Your brilliant success is obviously due to the variable speed feature of your drill.
