Introduction

Hello, crafty ladies.  Welcome to So I Married a Craft Blogger.  This blog is my place to share my perspective as a man being married to a serious craft blogger.  Many of you may know my wife Mandy from Sugar Bee Crafts.  My blog name is a bit of a misnomer; we've been married for eleven years (though it seems like forever) but she's only been craft blogging now for about three years (though it seems like forever).  In fact, she recently invited me to "guest post" on her blog and share my version of our love story in honor of our eleven year anniversary.  Realizing that it's every guy's dream to write his love story and post it on the web for the world to see, I jumped at the chance - you can read that sappy tale here.  Rest assured, I got a lot of high-fives from my guy friends after the post.  They all said it was really sweet and all and wished they could do the same...or something like that.

Actually, it was that post that prompted me to write this blog.  A reader (thanks Ward!) commented that I "should start a blog about being a husband of a blogger and then all of our hubbys could follow him and get great ideas from him lol."  Mandy read that to me and we both laughed.  The next day she mentioned it again and we both thought that it sounded kind of fun.

So here are the ground rules:  I share my honest perspective of being married to a craft blogger.  That means the good, the bad, and the super cute (there's never anything ugly when you're married to a craft blogger; I learned that lesson a long time ago.  "Super cute" better be one of your canned auto-responses.).  I share what I think and experience and Mandy promised not to get upset or offended.  We'll see how this works after a few weeks.  I reserve the right to stop blogging if I have to sleep on the couch.

That being said, I do think Mandy is awesome and super talented.  She does a lot of cool things that have made our home a better place to live, provides stress relief to our family, and has used her skills in helping others.  She crafts a lot and blogs a lot, which also means that I craft a lot, sometimes against my will.  Sometimes her crafty ideas are fun and I'm happy to help out, and sometimes they're nuts and a lot of work and I'm still happy to help out.

One more thing.  I'm an engineer at my full-time real job.  That means I think a little different than most crafty lady types.  I'm all about function and efficiency.  Not that most of the projects that Mandy does or that I see on other blogs aren't models of function and efficiency, but just try image searching "craft blog" and you'll see that some of them leave a little to be desired in that arena.  So, you'll get a bit of that view point as well.

Here we go.  I'll post periodically when something interesting comes up.

  1. My husband is a computer engineer- and I hear similar things from him all the time about function and efficiency.
Question, though-- do you really say "super cute?" I can't imagine those words coming out of my husband's mouth!

  2. I have to agree with Valerie! I'll never hear those words from my husbands mouth, either! I feel that if he spends more than 2-3 seconds looing at something I've made, its appreciation! LOL! Hopped here from Mandy's blog... Good luck with your blogging! Looking forward to reading more...

  5. Hahaha - you are are a brave man! ROFL as your commentary sounds amazingly similar to my husband and his friends (I can imagine what the buddies had to say about the anniversary post!) and he shares your opinion on the empty picture frames, lol. I'm new to blogging so my husband is just figuring out what that is all about and has been fairly tolerant of my need to take a picture of his plate before he can eat his dinner every night.

  6. Hysterical! My husband is an engineer....he will probably never say "super-cute"....but once he did say "that's just DARLING" and then rolled his eyes. Does that count? But...like you, he'll pretty much help me with anything. (I just learned that it takes longer and sometimes involves graph paper because he's an engineer, whereas, I might just eyeball something, much to his horror! You and Mandy are lucky to have each other. I'm going to to try to get my husband to follow your blog. Thanks for a new perspective! (Will you be doing a link party soon???!!!!

I think you found a clever niche - a mans perspective is just what we are wanting!!

  8. OK ..I, like a few others before me, stopped in my tracks when reading "super-cute"...I confess...I thought.."Is Mandy writing this!"...haha...I am just keepin' it real!
I was actually telling a friend last night about this clever little idea! I am "super-excited" (had to throw in the "Super") to read your point of view. I have a feeling it will bring lots of laughs!

  10. I just enjoyed going through your past blog posts - sort of sad to get to the end. I'm not a regular follower of your wife's blog - and stumbled upon your blog through a link somewhere. As a female crafty engineer (married to a gun-toting-gear-head-engineer) I must say that I've been very entertained. Thanks.
